2nd project - Humpty Dumpty

Hrm..here come the second project..
N its title is "Humpty Dumpty"!

Do u all have any idea what can a project be like with such a title?
Should be something to do with fallen object, right?

Well, we have to design a protection for a raw chicken egg so that the egg does not break when the contraption hits the ground after being dropped from the 5th floor..(Yea..Using raw chicken egg again..N according to my lecturer, we can recycle the egg we used for the Formula-R egg racing if we didnt break it..What a good recycle example..huhu~)

To be judge as the best design, we have to ensure that the protected egg falls to the ground with the fastest speed without breaking it..

The marking is based on a formula derived by smart ppl..haha..According to Xiang Jie, the formula is damn evil..
Well, here it goes:

time free-fall (s) / time measured (s) x (1 - weight contraption (g) / (2x85g)) x 10 + 6

*The free-fall time from the 5th floor (height=15.2 m) is ___sec.
**Calculated by Bao Xing..the free-fall time is 1.761s.

So...see the evil part d?

We have to take both weight of the egg n material used and da time taken for the egg to land into consideration..
If the weight exceed 170g, then no matter how fast the egg land..also equal to zero..
So I guess..What I have to do is watch out the weight 1st before the time taken..

For the rules..

1. ANY material will do to construct the contraption (which is kinda lenient XD)
2. Both the contraption plus the egg must weigh <85g. The egg itself must weigh no less than 55g.
3. No direct coating protecting or sticky tape is allowed on the egg.
4. The egg has to be wrapped with plastic bag during practice n competition so that the mess is contained if the egg breaks. You are required to clean up the mess on the floor caused by the contraption. Marks will be deducted if this is not done. (Sounded very mean huh? Well, this is fair for the cleanliness workers n most importantly the next group of students.)
5. Important: During ur practice, make sure that the contraption does not land on anyone's head. (This rule is so so funny..Hahax..My seniors told me that some people kena this last time..So suey..So starting from now..Whenver pass by east or west atrium have to be careful d..if possible, jz dun pass by that area..jz for my head's sake..)
6. Contraption that collides with the side of the building during the fall will be disqualified. (How sad is this..Collision means the same as the egg breaks..)
   
7. Designs must be original. (I doubt that the majority will follow this rule..Most people for sure will consult the seniors this time..Even last time also we did d..)
   
8. Only one test-run. (One for all..Dead or alive..Aihz..Scary..)

Hrm..Have something in my mind now..But duno whether it can work or not..Will try it out..but I still need more suggestions..hehe..The more the merrier ma..XD

Formula-R Egg Race

Well, for those who have read my previous blog..Should have known that I have gone through my first project this week..n the title--Formula-R Egg Race..Lolx..Sounded like Formula-1..but then is not car racing..but egg racing..

Hrm..First of all, sad to tell that..my project didnt meet the expectation..
Something went wrong which I dont really know what exactly happened at that time..
After thinking abt the it, I've come up with some mistakes in the test runs..

1. The elacticity of the rubber band.

I guess this is the main problem. Should have changed it to a new one. But my partner said that the used one can stretched longer. I didnt really think about whether it really should work this way or not. But I jz take her advice. So basically is our fault. Anyone also knows tat new rubber band has better elacticity. What the hell am I thinking at that moment???

2. I'm too nervous, not calm enough.

What should I blame this on? My surname? I'm the 3rd one having my 'vehicle' to be tested. All thanks to the 'C' initial in my surname. Aihz..This is so lame, blaming on surname..But I know I'm really nervous at that time..The moment when I saw my 'vehicle' toppled down during the 1st test-run, I nearly broke down..This never happen during the practice on my hand..But it jz happened during the real thing..Argh!!For the 2nd test run, I jz dun dare to use that much strength cz I scared that it might topple again..I get nervous easily when things are put on examination, not to mention when something unexpected jz occur all in a sudden..Aihz..Guess I just need to be more caution, n think of every possible consequences, especially the worse ones that might occur..(Well, actually I did think of the worst case scenario, which is my vehicle cannot move at all..This happens during the practice..so should I be at least a bit grateful that it actually did travel for some displacement?)

3. Not enough of hard work.

Honestly, compared to others, what I've done n tried is only very little. Beside having limited ideas, I'm kind of lazy to retry n re-test on the vehicle. Just feel like faster get it done will do. Only till the night before my presentation, I found out that someone's vehicle can travel the egg till 10.9m, feel so bad yet regret for not trying harder.

Aihz..Whatever it is la..It has already passed..This few days was so down..Have to keep on remind myself that it is over already..But still cant help with it..Cz I know I can do better..We are only given twice to run our vehicle..For the 1st one, my vehicle toppled down as it slided over the rubber band somehow..Then the 2nd time, it didnt go as far as what I've tried earlier on..it just went 3.46m..So lame la..Then I bor kam buan, go try aside again..N it just went 4.5m easily after changing the rubber band..I jz feel like sreaming at that time..Then asked another chance from the tutor, Jason Leong..But he didnt allow it..I understand that he has to be fair to everyone..But but..aihz..jz my fault la..Really feel sorry for my partner, Huihui..If not because she cant make the vehicle move smoothly, some coordinate problem..I wouldnt have take out the responsibility to stretch the rubber band n let go the vehicle..Though she didnt blame me, but I still feel bad about it..Causing her marks to go down as well..

Today is the last day of the race..So far the furthest one still is 10.9m..Nobody breaks tat record yet..But still have to wait till after today only can confirm about it..One thing which is unfair is that..those with the lab on later days one can still modify there 'vehicle' after getting info from earlier lab session students..Tat's why the seniors usually allocate their lab session as late as possible..We are not aware of this when we choose our timetable..So next semester, we, juniors will all rush for the friday lab classes..LoLx

Well..Again, Using the PC in computer lab at the Monash building to online..
What to do leh..The connection in hostel sucks!
If by using the connection in hostel..it will be like almost impossible to hv updates in my blog..
Anyway, just to let u guys know that..I like Friday after 11am the most..Hiak hiak..
Cz I'm totally free after 11am..
Basically, I only have an hour class on Friday..
Ahem..I guess most of u sure will be thinking.."Ei?Engineering course is similar to commerce courses..also so relax one o?"
Wrong Wrong Wrong!!!
This is because I allocated most of my tutorials n lab classes to first few days of the week..
This is called, "xian1 ku3 hou4 tian2"..
Suffer for 2 or 3 days..then finally can relax A BIT..

This is the 3rd week of commencement of class d..
Things are getting more hectic n tough..
Projects, assignments have been distributed to us..
We even had a small quiz few days ago..
Notice the word--small..Hahax..It's kinda a small one if compared to the real exam thingy..
Moreover, there will be another quiz on next Thurs..

N Next Tues gonna present a project..
It's something like transportation of raw chicken-egg by using a catapult with a normal brown rubber band to the greatest possible horinzontal displacement without breaking the egg.
For the past few years, there aint that much restrictions in this project..
It might seem to be similar to the project tat those seniors had before..
But this time, Dr. Lan instilled even more restriction for the rules..

• There's no restriction on the material that could be used for the vehicle. However, the components cannot be parts from toy car. (This is for sure..if not all of us will jz go get a controllable modified racing car..Hahax)
• The vehicle must not have any parts that can rotate. The egg must not rotate as well while the vehilce is moving and must remain on the vehicle. (last two years, some seniors used plate or disc to make the 'vehicle' roll..n it can move to endless distance..XD..How Iwish I can just copy this idea..too bad..it's restricted..)
  
• Must design and construct own catapult using only one standard rubber band. The rubber band may be cut but it may not be treated with chemicals or heated or cooled. (Rubber band must be the one provided.)
• The vehicle must be launced using a catapult using rubber band. (Spring or other stuffs cannot be used then..if not it will be based on spring force n not elasticity of rubber band..)
  
• The catapult with the rubber band must be anchored to the ground at the starting point. (So that we cannot add a slide ourself to accelerate the 'vehicle')
  
• Not allowed to use any lubricant in the form of liquid (including ice) or powder for test-runs. (Last year some seniors used the idea of ice to increase the speed..so now this is banned..)
  
• The surface of the floor is not a smooth one..It's like normal tiles floor but not the licin licin type..n have gaps between the tiles..(Increasing the frictional force..aihz)
  
• Displacement will be measured relative to the center point of the egg.
• All broken eggs will get the same lowest mark.
• Unbroken eggs will be ranked accordingly to displacement.

I did seek help from some seniors..
I'm really blur n Clueless of what to do..
I've only simple idea..put da egg in a box..make a traditional catapult..pull the rubber band..let go...n that's it!!
I've been asking opinions from a few seniors since the task was given..Meaning a week ago..
N really hands on to do it last two nights..
Well, I'm not really the one that forming the thing..
Kept on kena shot by Godfrey (one of the seniors)..Saying that it's like not mine project but in fact his..
Hehe..Appreciated ur efforts much la..n also Tim's one as well..Not to forget Ricky..
They gave me some ideas..but most of them cant be applied due to the restrictions..
I understand the reason that Dr Lan sets all these restrictions..preventing us from copying our seniors' project..
But..come to think of it..no rotating part..without the help of liquid(ice) or powder..using a normal rubber band which has not much elasticity.. it's harder than tough to transport an egg to 10m distance..isnt it?
Yea..The lecturer said..it can be done to a distance of 10m!!
Is it possible?
Well, since he can say so..there must be a way..
Just that we still unable to come out with that idea..
C'mon!A 3-weeks student has to do such a project..n expect it to go 10m far..Whoa..It's really a high expectation..
Maybe some people might be able to do it..but just not me..

Sigh..This is the moment I started to have doubts in myself for taking up this course..
The 1st project for sure is the simplest one..
N yet, I've already have difficulties in handling it..
Then..started to think a lot..have confusion in myself..
I remembered what I used to have in the list of my ambition - Computer Engineer..
Somehow this ambition is abandoned..due to some bad feedbacks from my uncles continuously for a few years since primary till secondary..
"It's no longer demanding in the market..Requested a lot of upgrading in the IT world..Need lots of creativity in programming..bla bla bla"
They are like just not encouraging me to study that..
I know..the future is mine..not theirs..so whatever decision I make shouldnt be influenced so much by others..
However..they have much experiences than me for sure in the working level..They know what is happening in the market..So I still have to consider their words..
Soon or later after that, I gave up computer science n planned to study either accounting or engineering..

My accounting choice is demolished..after HSC..haha..To me, accounting is just plain boring..I couldnt imagine for the rest of my life I'm going to just balance the journal n things like that..although some might think that they can gain 'cheng2 jiu4 gan3' when they succeed in balancing the journal..(which is my mum..XD)..I dont think I can bear with it..Erm..No offence yea..for those taking accounting or planning to take it..This is just simply how I feel about this subject..Neway, every individual has different interest n opinion towards the same thing..right?

Furthermore, I dislike biology..n I am not capable in arts or designing..so..what more options do I have?
Haha..If u ask me..am I a Physics fan...The answer is absolutely no..
N why am I taking engineering? I suppose this is the like da only choice that I have..so sad..

K..back to what I said earlier on..
I've doubts..n so..I went to consult the course advice manager..
Well..I know it's not possible to change course right now..cz it's already the 3rd week..n if I just drop out now n wait for the next sem..I'd have wasted time n money..
I know time n money are not the very main concerns..the most vital prospect still is my interest in the course..
After talking to her, somehow I know what I should do..
IT course can be my interest..I can put extra attention on it..perhaps choose it as electives subjects in the future..but the main thing is to stick with engineering..try my very best..after struggling through the 1st year..N I'll be able to get into the branch that I wish to..n then I wont be facing so much of mechanical or worse still physics stuffs..

Phew..Feel even more relaxing n less tense after typing these things out..
Sorry yea if u happen to read about this post..
Must have bored you..hahax..
I just wanna let go things that bothered me for a week plus..

Well, back to blogging again..
SO sorry for the long absence in my blog..No updates for almost one month..
Terrible huh me..
Getting lazier n lazier..
But actually is kind of busy occupied with loads of stuff..
Will try to blog as frequent as possible..n also ganti back most of the happenings during last month..(The possibilities for this to happen is lesser than 50% =P)

Again, time flies..
"Pat Keng Pat Kok", it's da 1st day of March d..
N I have been staying at Sunway for one week d..
Things are still fine here..EXCEPT for the food..
Aihz..Made me miss PG food so much..
Hahax..I guess this is the main reason that make me miss home..
Where I needless to do anything..especially household chores..
Back there, what I need to do are just eat, sleep, play..n that's all..
How wonderful n enjoyable is that?
Well, this is life..
Will have to go from one stage to another..
N now I'm at the level of independence..Everything has to be relied on myself..
No more pampered lifestyle..wont get to enjoy 'yi lai shen shou, fan lai zhang kou' that kind of easy life..
Anyway people, I still manage to survive la..As I'm still blogging here..=P
So no worries..
Just need some time to adapt to the new environment n get used to new lifestyle..
As u can see, everything is NEW..but still I'm the old me..just need some improvements here n there..

However, my life wont be as tough as those that are staying overseas right now for sure..
Hopefully everything is fine for these people..should have settled all the stuffs, ie: accomodation, courses thingy by now ba..

So now get started with my first weekends at KL..

24th of Feb (Sat)
The day I reached Sunway..Before departure, my parents took me to Akebono to have lunch..one of my favourite-Jap food..Hehe..It's like I'm going to be sent into jail..Having my last delicious meal..Omomo~

My aunt was the one fetching me from PG to Sunway..We departed at 3.30pm n reached at around 9pm..At the highway, we saw a total of 3 accidents..N this is the major reason for causing all the jams at the highway..Accident involving two vehicles will cause a long stretch of jam..U wont believe it until u see the actual long queue..So better drive safe..For ur own sake n also other road users..The last accident we saw was the most serious one..chain of accidents..about 5 cars..n all are seriously damaged..huhu..forgot to snap a photo on it..Cant show u guys..Anyway, it's still Chinese New Year ler..What a bad start for these people..

After all the congested traffic..finally..get to reach my hostel - Sunway Monash Condominium..
By that time, Hui Ting n Zi Xiang were at the hostel d..Called them to come down n help me to move my stuffs up to my room..kept on kena perli for bringing so many bags of stuffs here..Huhu..I guess everyone there is almost the same la..My aunt perli me like mad jz because of bringing that packet of toilet rolls..Still dun understand..Why bring it from PG is called siao n buy at KL is not leh?
Since I go there by car n not by bus, I buy everything in PG first then bring them all together to KL will be more convenient mer..Huhu..Rather than still need to go to hypermarket to look for those items after reaching here..Lagi ma huan..isn't it? It's not like I'm going to overseas n bring those stuffs to board the plane as well..That's really gila la..Just trying to make life more convenient nia ma..
Forget about that..I know what I'm doing will do..*Sigh*

Then 4 of us had our dinner together - Ampang Yong Tau Hu..Which turned out quite bad taste..>.<.. N I'm forced to finish up the leftover dishes..Am I such a big eater?
After that back to hostel, unpack part of my stuffs..then called it a night..

25th of Feb (Sun)
Woke up quite early to have breakfast with aunt..My breakfast was Dim Sum..Hehe..
My aunt forgot to bring money out..Luckily still enough to pay for two..
If not gonna stay back to wash dishes d..LoLx..
Then went to buy some fruits n groceries nearby..

Back to hostel..continue to unpack the rest of my stuffs..
Finally get the unpacking job done..
Kinda tired..then went to nap nap..

Some plan was carried out..not very secretly by some friends here..
LoLx..At 1st I was just kidding..Thinking that this year wont got any big celebration on for my bday..most frens are not around d..but they really manage to make it!

Surprisingly, ZX was the one doing the plan..LoLx..really unexpected hor..
I jz roughly knew that who they have invited n will have our dinner together stuffs lidat..
I didnt know that there'll be a cake..
Until the night before, my hand gatal go korek ZX's inbox..n found out that they have actually bought a cake d..See la..so kaypo..destroy the surprise d..LoLx..
But sadly, they didnt know that I'm NOT a cheesecake fan..but since they bought it d..then is okay lo..Sincerity is more than enough..=)

Went Orange (a restaurant) to have our dinner..
Received a few presents..(Huhu..which later on all gone in one short..becoz nobody bother to take care of the presents when we're at the pool side after dinner..So so sad..Have already cursed the person who took those presents till very chicham d..aihz..Din even get to unwrap the presents..Only noe that there are Pringles(by Bengz n Lau), Ribena juice(By Aaron) nia..Not that I'm greedy wiv the presents..but feel so bad for those that give me presents one..Well, the thought counts I guess..the only thing to console myself..)

On the way back..got fireworks..but din manage to see..
N Bengz kept on tipu me that he got bring fireworks..Huhu..
Made me so happy initially nia..He's so bad bad..

He went to get the cake from his fridge..So much for the surprise..Hehe..

U all better watch out..For sure I will revenge..Hiak hiak..
